Is the fall a good time to visit Europe?

I am currently living in CA and eagerly awaiting a move back to New England. CA has been a great experience, but am ready for the next stage of my life. In need of a soul replenish, and with that, trying to plan a 3 month trip to Europe in the fall. Is that a good time to visit? What major events are taking place?
