You didn't do anything wrong in rejecting him. And you have matured over the situation realizing that good guys are better than players. I wouldn't compete for him because he's desirable now after the fact you stated he was boring and unattractive to you. He'll be fine, the other girls have seen his strengths and one will probably make him happy. Don't lower your standards because now you notice him after going for good looking guys who wouldn't have treated you right. I would be his friend and let it go from there. You rejected him when he built up the confidence to ask you out, and your reasons are validated, you are seeking someone that interests you more. If you are attractive and have a good personality, let the other guys chase you, but now you have a better perspective on how guys act and that maybe a good looking guy with a good heart is the one for you. If you both can be good friends and it turns out you really do like him, then let him know you are interested. If he feels the same he will ask you out Again.
